Frequently asked questions
Here are some of the questions we're frequently asked. If you can think of any others, please get in touch!
Q. Is Girls into Geoscience - Ireland just for female identifying people?
A. Although we're committed to introducing senior cycle female identifying people to the geosciences, and started off as an organisation predominantly for female identifying people, we are open to anyone that is interested in the role geoscience can play in their future.
Q. I'm not in the senior cycle yet or the first year of university, can I still attend?
A. Maybe, if you're out by a year or so, the answer is probably. If you're much younger then maybe wait another couple of years. In either case, please get in touch with us and we'll see what we can do!
Q. I'm not sure that I can afford to travel to the event, do you offer any travel stipends?
Q. When is the next Girls into Geoscience - Ireland event?
A. We normally hold events annually in November. There will not be a Girls into Geoscience - Ireland event in November this year, because of the current COVID-19 situation. We may hold an event in the near future, but it is likely that most events will be help online until the it is sage to move back to in person events.
Q. I'm worried about COVID-19, I don't want to attend an event under these circumstances.
A. We completely understand this, and we're not sure whether we will be holding an in-person event yet. If the event does run in-person, we will make sure that it is possible to attend the event through an online platform, like zoom.
Q. There's an area of the geosciences that I'm really interested in, will you run a workshop/talk on it?
A. We'll absolutely try our best to facilitate this! Get in contact with us and let us know what you're interested in and we'll see what we can do to include this in our next event!
Q. Do you have any information about careers in the geosciences?
A. Yes! A resource page is coming soon, but if you get in contact we may be able to send some further information to you.
